GOTR Spokane Board Member Tony’s Boston Marathon Purpose

Hello friends and family!

I’m heading off to run the Boston Marathon on April 15th! This is a long-time goal of mine, so I wanted to do something special to make this race truly worthwhile. I’m excited to share that I was one of only 40 people nationwide selected to be a part of the Girls on the Run National SoleMates Team, supported by Fleet Feet. This means I’ve committed to fundraise $1,200 to benefit my local Girls on the Run council. To learn all about Girls on the Run and everything they do for young women, check it out here: www.gotrspokane.org.

As you probably know, this past year I retired from the Air Force for something that in many ways has a greater purpose: helping young women reach their full potential. I started a new career at Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho, teaching STEM and Outdoor skills to girls from K-12, helping them gain Courage, Confidence, and Character to be successful in their lives. Additionally, I joined the Girls of the Run Spokane board to further help Inland Northwest's young women, many of which come from family situations that put them at greater risks associated with a high ACE score.  Between these two organizations, I see a brighter future for many girls that will lead our world of tomorrow.

As I mentioned above, my goal is $1200. I believe in this great cause, so Sarah and I have already donated $250 towards that goal. If the rest of you collectively raise at least $1200, I'll double Sarah and my contribution to $500. Additionally, Fleet Feet is matching every dollar raised. Our overall 40-member team goal is $50,000. Funds raised by each team member will benefit their local Girls on the Run councils, offering programs in communities across the US that inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

Every step I take running the Boston Marathon will help give these young women better lives.  Come join my journey by donating to my fundraising campaign here: https://runsignup.com/runningfordreams.

Thank you!

Tony
